About Merlin
Merlin is the component recommendation engine for the electronics industry. We turn the 3-4 hour process of choosing critical components into 3-4 minutes by replacing manual datasheet comparison, spreadsheets, and screenshots with actionable, data-backed recommendations.
Our Story
We're hardware and software engineers who've worked at Apple, Boston Dynamics, Zipline, and Humane. Across these companies, we experienced the same frustration: hardware engineers lack the sophisticated tooling that software engineers take for granted. While software development has incredible automation and AI assistance, hardware engineers still spend hours manually comparing datasheets and building spreadsheets to make component decisions.
We're starting by solving the component discovery and selection problem because it consistently slowed us down the most as engineers. Every PCBA design involves selecting hundreds of components, and each decision can impact cost, performance, and timeline significantly.
Approach
We extract the specifications that actually matter for engineering decisions: DC bias curves, ripple current ratings, thermal characteristics, and availability data. Instead of hunting through dozens of manufacturer sites and PDFs, engineers get side-by-side comparisons with verified data to make informed decisions quickly.
Why Capacitors First
Capacitors are the most common component on printed circuit boards and the most commons components swapped during parts shortages. Solving component selection here creates a foundation for expanding to all component types.
